The final climb to Cape Spear - it was a short day of riding (only 25 km), but the last set of hills up to Cape Spear were pretty steep.  I pushed hard for the final few kilometers and was greeted by about 50 people who were connected in some way with Huntington's disease.  As I rode to the top the sun came out and my dad brought out the champagne to celebrate the completion of my grand voyage across Canada.  Thank you to everyone who came out to greet and cheer me to the finish line.

Prior to arriving at Cape Spear we met with the Mayor of St. John's on the steps of city hall and he invited us to come to the council meeting on Monday to share about my ride and get some more media coverage for the Huntington's cause.

The adventure is just beginning!

The Cause - Huntington's Disease

Huntington's disease is something that has profoundly touched my family and had an immense impact on the way our family has been able to communicate.  My grandfather and great grandfather were both stricken with the disease and suffered early death.  I now have an aunt and an uncle who have also been diagnosed with the disease.  In January 2010 my dad shared with us, for the first time, the fear he's had of passing it on to me and my sisters.  Though we have not been tested, the disease typically appears in the late 20's to early 30's.  My dad will be 60 this year and has shown no signs.  When I told him I was going to ride my bike across the continent he asked if Huntington's disease would be something I'd like to ride for - and I said "That's a great idea!
